Carter is doing great. We’ve been trying to get him to say dog, since he has such a love for Holden. He’ll say Duh or Dah, but mostly now he says woof. He’s quite the busy little guy, and now his walk is a full blown run. He still loves his trucks, and is either playing with them or hiding in his blow up house.
I’ve completely weaned him from the breast (yes, I made it a year — 4 teeth & all), so now he is to drink milk. Well he does not like milk. I am tempted to try soy milk since he liked the disgusting soy yogurt but we’ll give regular milk some time. Luckily Carter would live off cheese lately if we let him so he is getting his dairy elsewhere, which I am told is ok. But what kid doesn’t like milk? Now I find homo milk rather gross looking, but Shawn is salivating… I’m sure one day I’ll come home to find Shawn having a glass. Poor Shawn, I force him to eat low fat dairy. He doesn’t know what “regular” or “full fat” (is what I call it) products taste like anymore.
Anyway, here is some more videos of the daily fun out our house. Enjoy!

Carter is walking everywhere now. He’s even started to figure out how to get up from sitting on his own (without pulling him self up on something or someone). He has taken a few face-plants into the carpet in the process but his balance is getting better.
I’ve started to wean him from breastfeeding, and I think it will be a long process. He’s rather addicted. I’m only nursing him first in the morning & before bed, the rest is formula. He’s very stubborn, and up until today he’d only drink a few ounces of formula all day. Today he finally drank two full cups of formula from the sippy cup!! The first few days, when it was time to nurse in the evening & he saw the boppy come out, he’d get so excited, wave his arm & grunt!! Poor little guy looks like he’s in heaven when he gets a little boobie time. I think I’ll drag the weaning process out a bit, simply because I am too lazy to go make a bottle in the morning.
Today I also got him to eat some finger food meat. Yes, Carter is not a big fan of cheese, meat or bread. He will eat all kinds of veggies. I make some baby food & freeze prepared finger foods so he gets quite the variety, including broccoli, brussel spouts, cauliflower & zucchini. He’ll even eat tofu & lentils, but cheese, meat & bread is handed to the dog. Last week I got him to eat some ground turkey, in a veggie meatloaf — so yes the meat was hidden with the vegetables! But today he ate a few pieces of ham — progress. We also figured out he’ll eat bread dipped in hummus, actually he’ll eat just about anything dipped in hummus.
Anyway, I’ve uploaded some new videos for the grandmas. Happy Mothers day! (Shawn would like to take some credit… he taped some of the video… and asked me to go post it for his mom).

Last weekend was fun. Out for lunch with friends, a little christmas shopping, & a BBQ thing for Shawn’s work. Carter was in a great mood at the BBQ so he put on quite the show. He can be quite the little flirt when he wants, & he didn’t seem to mind being passed around. I now have a new pet peeve: Why do people let babies put there hands in their mouths? I know baby hands are cute, but no need to open your mouth, because you know from your mouth that hand is going back in his mouth. Next time some strange lady hold him & does something gross, I may just have to be blunt, but this time I casually pulled out a wipe & gave Carter a once over.
Not much new. Carter & I have been busy going to our playdates to keep busy, on friday we go to the zoo. Can’t say I miss work too much, but its time to take the plunge. This Saturday, I am going to work for the first time since Carter was born. I am hoping things go well. Carter still doesn’t like the bottle, so it may be a challenging day for Shawn.
American Thanksgiving is next weekend, & my parents, grandfather, brother, girlfriend & friend all arrive next friday. So Carter should have endless amounts of attention. Grandma D has requested some video to tide her over for the next week, so here it is. The first video is Carter & Holden. Carter is very aware of Holden, & visits or playtime with Holden is always full of smiles & laughs. Poor Holden is quickly learning that Carter can now pull & grab with painful strength. The second video shows Carters distaste for green beans. Feeding babies new food is pretty amusing.

We decided to feed Carter solid food today. We were going to wait another month but he’s been breastfeeding like a madman, including getting up 2-3 times a night again to eat (he was up only once or sleeping through). He did pretty good. He took a few good mouthfuls, had a few laughs, but then he got distracted by the fact that he was confined to his highchair. I thought it wasn’t too bad for a first attempt.
1st (semi) solid meal
Grandma D loves video, so I’ve taped some more. The first video is “fun with daddy”… we have no shame in this video, so enjoy. The second video is Carter discovering a new sound, he did this for about 15minutes (long enough for us to have good laugh & think, he we should tape this).

I have a request for more video (Apparently my mom watches the latest video every night before bed). So I have taped some more video for Grandma D. Carters latest obession is his feet. He loves his feet. Spends most of the day playing with them, so much that you have detach his hands from his feet to change his diaper. So this is a video of Carter grabbing hold of his feet (such concentration), only to be distracted every once and a while by the duvet cover. Enjoy!

Carter is getting alot stonger lately & is very squirmy. We now have to keep him strapped into all his little chairs because he has proven he can wiggle himself right out of his bouncer seat, and even his car seat when not strapped in. We set up the jumperoo since he loves to kick his feet — he’s already getting the hang of jumping around in it.

I have had a few run-ins with snakes this week, actually the car has run them over. On Tuesday, I thought I may have run over something small when backing out but didn’t think anything of it until I went to get the mail… and there was a very flat dead snake in the road at the end of the driveway!! Then today, I ran over a very large snake a few blocks form the house!! Have to say, gave me the creeps to be that close to a large snake, even though I was in the car.
To top off my animal stories, there is also a bobcat in our neighbourhood. No joke!! This is not something I heard through the grapevine, a friend saw it walking along her block wall one morning. They are building a new grocery store north of us & it seems to have disturbed the animals.
I joined the stay at home moms group, & have to say its fun, fun, fun!! I went to a 0-6month babies play date, there were 10 moms & 12 babies (only 3 babies were girls). Such a good time that I am hosting a playdate in October. I have also started to go to the library up the street for “baby time” — its too cute to watch the babies & moms sing & dance to nursery rhymes!!
Anyway, I did get to try out the “bumbo” at the playdate, & I admit I went out & bought one. The bumbo is a rubber chair, where baby sits upright & is so stable you can put it on any surface. Shawn had a good laugh when I plunked Carter in the bumbo on the coffee table in front of him!
The bumbo.
Here is some very cute video of Carter, enjoy!

The house is full — both Jackie & my parents are here visiting Carter. My parents are here all week, & Jackie only for a two more days. Shawn left for India (for work) this morning, so its nice that I have visitors here to help.
Jackie is very good at rocking Carter to sleep, and doesn’t even mind diapers. My parents on the other hand love it when he is awake. My mom has been reading books to him & crawling around on the floor teaching him how to use his play gym (thing that has mirrors, balls, rattly things that you set over him while he is on the floor). They also love to do anthing that will make him smile, so tonight Jackie and I watched as they sang nursery rhymes to Carter in unison. At one point my dad was even dancing around while he sang! Needless to say, watching my parents try to remember nursery rhyme words was halarious…. so Jackie pulled out her camera. My parents did not realize her regular camera takes video so they proceeded to sing… her is the video: (it shakes at some points because Jackie is laughing so hard. Sorry it is sideways, we don’t know how to change it):

We’ve been working on trying to catch some smiles on photo & video, unfortunately by the time we think of getting the cameras, Carter has lost interest in whatever got him to smile int he first place. While trying to catch a few smiles on video, we did however catch a “shart”. I am dedicating this video to uncle Trent. Go to the following link: (watch the video with sound)

We are off to Telluride, Colorado this week for a little vacation. Shawn likes to refer to this as Holden’s vacation, because yes we drag him along. We go to Telluride every summer to do a little hiking, while we love it, Holden loves it more. Telluride is very “dog friendly”, so it is acceptable to have your dog sit on the patio with you while you have lunch, & they even let you take the dog in the gondola. Mind you Holden is afraid of the gondola, so it usually involves Shawn picking up our 58lbs dog & carrying him on! Anyway, I am sure Carter will like hiking, because he seems to enjoy anything that involves movement & looking around. I’ll be sure to post pictures once we get back.
More visitors are coming this month. My parents (aka grandma & grandpa Davis) are coming, I am sure my mom is counting down the days. And I know she probably has her suitcase full of children’s books packed already — she had a good time at the Montessori book fair now that she is a grandma. I’m sure she”ll be happy to know that I have already started to read to Carter, mind you I have no idea if he is listening or not.
Jackie is also coming in august to see Carter. She wants to make sure Carter knows which hockey team to root for this season – go sens! She feels he may be becoming a Leafs fan (she’ll be sure to remind him who didn’t make the playoffs last season).
Half smile
