Snakes!!

September 23, 2006

I have had a few run-ins with snakes this week, actually the car has run them over. On Tuesday, I thought I may have run over something small when backing out but didn’t think anything of it until I went to get the mail… and there was a very flat dead snake in the road at the end of the driveway!! Then today, I ran over a very large snake a few blocks form the house!! Have to say, gave me the creeps to be that close to a large snake, even though I was in the car.

To top off my animal stories, there is also a bobcat in our neighbourhood. No joke!! This is not something I heard through the grapevine, a friend saw it walking along her block wall one morning. They are building a new grocery store north of us & it seems to have disturbed the animals.

I joined the stay at home moms group, & have to say its fun, fun, fun!! I went to a 0-6month babies play date, there were 10 moms & 12 babies (only 3 babies were girls). Such a good time that I am hosting a playdate in October. I have also started to go to the library up the street for “baby time” — its too cute to watch the babies & moms sing & dance to nursery rhymes!!

Anyway, I did get to try out the “bumbo” at the playdate, & I admit I went out & bought one. The bumbo is a rubber chair, where baby sits upright & is so stable you can put it on any surface. Shawn had a good laugh when I plunked Carter in the bumbo on the coffee table in front of him!

 The bumbo.

Here is some very cute video of Carter, enjoy!

Doggie WWF

September 18, 2006

We are dog sitting Crosby & Nash this week; yes that make 3 dogs at my house currently. To boot Nash is still a puppy, he’s about 6 months old so he’s full of energy. Holden is happy to have his friends over since it has been non stop  WWF doggie wrestling at times. Nash loves to play with Holden, so much so that occaisionaly you have to drag Nash off of him so Holden can have a little rest. Carter seems unphased by the dogs, in fact at times he seems entranced with watching them wrestle. We’ve given them all the chance to meet Carter (which involves a once over sniff & gigantic doggie lick to the face). Seems dogs have a nack for licking up the center of the face, see photo below for an example!

 Nash & Crosby

I am going to my first baby play date tommorrow. I’ve joined a mothers group in my area so Carter & I can make new friends. Shawn had a good laugh because I had to send in my “profile” to see if I was accepted into the group; I agree sounds snooty, but I think its just to protect the moms & babies. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Carter is learning how to grasp things lately. His favorite thing lately is to pick up the burp cloth & stick it in his mouth. He has also become alot more vocal, so now he babbles away which is very amusing.

The Olympian

September 8, 2006

Seeing as how Carter was born here, and lives in the USA, we get alot of Canadian gifts. We have Leafs, Senator, & Canada onsies, a Canada kiddie football, leather maple leaf shoes and bib, etc… The other day, I put him in one of these outfits, and well I had to take a photo. This outfitlooks like he should be at the Olympics. Too funny! Yes that is a little baby visor he is wearing.

Anyway, Carter is changing alot lately. He is now able to roll himself onto his side from his back, but can’t quite roll himself over his little pudgy arm. He’s starting to reach out with both hands to grab things… in order to put them in his mouth. Everything must be tasted! The other morning he was fixated on his feet, so he kept pulling his feet up to have a better look. This was quite funny because every time he lifted his feet up like he was doing a reverse crunch, he would let a little fart go.

I’ve posted new photos on flkr, enjoy.

First Swim

September 6, 2006

We had a nice relaxing labour day. We had a few friends over for dinner one night, lunch & shopping wtih some friends, Shawn went golfing, and we layed around the pool.

Carter went for his first swim!! Carter seems to like bath time, so I thought it was time to take him in the pool.  Taking a baby in the pool is not as easy as it sounds. First you change him into the swim diaper (special diapers that doesn’t absorb a few pounds of pool water), then you coat him head to toe with sun tan lotion (which he does not like), then you attempt to have him wear sunglasses & a hat (neither of which were tolerated), then you get to take him into the pool, only to take him out & give him a bath to wash off the chlorine & suntan lotion. Carter did pretty good, but he was not interested in being submered past his waistline. So I think we will wait a few more months before he is ready to join the swim team.
