Mommy’s day out

August 29, 2006

Well Shawn got back from India on Thursday night. Rather uneventful trip, except he said the food was very good. He noticed in 2weeks of being away that Carter did look bigger — particularly his belly & his head (he’s still the cutest ever… but we are a little bias). Shawn says if you search google for “cute baby”, you’ll get our website… just kidding!

This past Sunday was mommy’s big day out. For the first time since Carter has been born, I spent the entire day out. Spa day!! Every so often I go to the spa with one of my friends. Some of you may recall that my last spa day was cancelled… I was giving birth. So on Sunday, I went to the spa and then shopping with some friends. While I missed Carter, it was very nice to have a day all to myself.

Carters schedule appears to be changing again. Previously I would feed him around 10 or 11pm and he’d be up once around 4 or 5am then back to bed until somewhere between 6:30 to 8 am. Now he’s up around midnight for a night feeding & then sleeps until about 6:30… but wants to get up for the day. I am not a morning person, so I am trying to adjust. The last two days we have taken Holden to the park, I figure if I’m up we might as well take advantage of it being cool outside. Holden has missed playing with his dogie friends every morning since my dad has left, so this has been a real treat for him.

Video & photos

August 21, 2006

I’m without a camera currently since Shawn has taken it with him to India, but not to worry I do have the video camera. So for those of you who are having withdrawl, here are the goods.

Video: The first video if of a little tummy time, the second video and third video are my mom & I playing with Carter after he woke up. We are trying to get him to smile but never fails, when the video camera is out Carter is more interested in stretching or farting. Enjoy.

My mom has taken 120 photos in the last eight days, so I have posted a bunch on flkr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/77936547@N00/page2/

Intake and output

August 16, 2006

Well Jackie has left & flown back to Calgary to continue her cross Canada trip (must be nice to be a teacher & have the summer off).

My parents are still here so I have been gettting to sleep in. My parents get up around 6:30am to take the dog to the park & then come home to give Carter a bottle so I can sleep in. It seems my dad (Grandpa Davis) is very good at feeding and burping Carter, so he does the intake & my mom takes care of the output. I think my mom likes to change him in the morning so she can pick his outfit for the day (or at least till he messes it up).

Everyone seems to love how Carter stretches and gets a kick out of his gas. My mom has even started to use the term “shart” (thanks to uncle Trent). Although she will also call it machine gun fire, while Jackie called it “some serious noise”.

Anyway, must go empty my closet. I’ve got my dad designing & installing some custom shelving in my bedroom closet. Everytime my parents visit, I find a job for my dad so he doesn’t get bored. He has no interest in shopping with my mom, so I give him the truck keys & set him loose at home depot.

“Nursery Rhymes”

August 14, 2006

The house is full — both Jackie & my parents are here visiting Carter. My parents are here all week, & Jackie only for a two more days. Shawn left for India (for work) this morning, so its nice that I have visitors here to help.

Jackie is very good at rocking Carter to sleep, and doesn’t even mind diapers. My parents on the other hand love it when he is awake. My mom has been reading books to him & crawling around on the floor teaching him how to use his play gym (thing that has mirrors, balls, rattly things that you set over him while he is on the floor). They also love to do anthing that will make him smile, so tonight Jackie and I watched as they sang nursery rhymes to Carter in unison. At one point my dad was even dancing around while he sang! Needless to say, watching my parents try to remember nursery rhyme words was halarious…. so Jackie pulled out her camera. My parents did not realize her regular camera takes video so they proceeded to sing… her is the video: (it shakes at some points because Jackie is laughing so hard. Sorry it is sideways, we don’t know how to change it):

All for now, I’ll post photos later.

Telluride/Mountain Village, Colorado

August 7, 2006

Well we just got back from our annual hiking vacation in Colorado; and yes we dragged both Carter & Holden with us. We refer to this as Holden’s vacation since it is all about hiking, & he loves every minute. The trip was very relaxing, & we love the mountains around Telluride. We are however, coming to learn that activities involving the baby take twice as long & we pack twice as much stuff. The camry was full full full!

Carter was a great little hiker, he didn’t seem to mind the baby carrier one bit (he spent most of the hike in a sleepy haze). Shawn carried Carter, which was nice since it meant he stopped once in a while. If you’ve hiked with Shawn you know he is a slave driver – “no resting till the top”, doesn’t matter if its four hours uphill.

Holden had a great time hiking and being dragged around town. Holden has his snazzy summer haircut (a buzz cut, leaving his signature giant duster tail), which got him loads of attention around town. Good attention, that he eats up. Anyway never a dull moment, & this trip was topped off with Holden rolling in fresh elk poop!! Not sure what the attraction is for dogs to roll in other scents (like fresh poop or dead animal carcass… which he has also done before).  Despite our screams he managed to roll in it enough to coat his left side. So we quickly snuck him into our condo at the lodge, avoiding anyone who may want to pet him, & Shawn gave him a bath in the tub. We stayed in a rather fancy place so a dog coated in elk poop would not have been appreciated. Needless to say we were glad he had his buzz cut, which made him much easier to clean. Dirty diaper vs elk poop dog… I definelty got the better deal this time!

Carter has his 2 month appointment this week, I’m guessing that he’ll have grown another inch taller. All for now.

 First hike.
