Plans for this august

July 30, 2006

We’ve been working on trying to catch some smiles on photo & video, unfortunately by the time we think of getting the cameras, Carter has lost interest in whatever got him to smile int he first place. While trying to catch a few smiles on video, we did however catch a “shart”. I am dedicating this video to uncle Trent. Go to the following link: (watch the video with sound)

We are off to Telluride, Colorado this week for a little vacation. Shawn likes to refer to this as Holden’s vacation, because yes we drag him along. We go to Telluride every summer to do a little hiking, while we love it, Holden loves it more. Telluride is very “dog friendly”, so it is acceptable to have your dog sit on the patio with you while you have lunch, & they even let you take the dog in the gondola. Mind you Holden is afraid of the gondola, so it usually involves Shawn picking up our 58lbs dog & carrying him on! Anyway, I am sure Carter will like hiking, because he seems to enjoy anything that involves movement & looking around. I’ll be sure to post pictures once we get back.

More visitors are coming this month. My parents (aka grandma & grandpa Davis) are coming, I am sure my mom is counting down the days. And I know she probably has her suitcase full of children’s books packed already — she had a good time at the Montessori book fair now that she is a grandma. I’m sure she”ll be happy to know that I have already started to read to Carter, mind you I have no idea if he is listening or not.

Jackie is also coming in august to see Carter. She wants to make sure Carter knows which hockey team to root for this season – go sens! She feels he may be becoming a Leafs fan (she’ll be sure to remind him who didn’t make the playoffs last season).

Bigger every day

July 25, 2006

Its amazing how fast babies change. Carter is alot more alert, he’s able to focus on us & is now smiling. Talking to him, making faces, or singing can bring on his cute little smile. To Shawn’s dissapointment, Carter has yet to smile or laugh when he blows raspberries on his stomach, but he keeps trying (Shawn that is).

Carter is now also able to roll over front to back; he’s done this twice so we know it is not a fluke. Rolling over does take a great deal of effort & grunting on his part. I don’t think he knows how he rolls over but the strength is there. He’s getting bigger& stronger by the minute. He’s starting to grow out of some of his new born clothes, mostly because he is too tall for them. He’s got a little chub but he is still quite tall & lean. We have noticed however that he does get quite the little belly after he eats…its his buddha belly. Its most amusing at bath time – now that he is used to the water he’s quite happy lounging with his legs up like he is sitting in a lazy boy, relaxing & digesting the contents of his big round buddha belly.

I thought I would post a picture of my other baby this time. Holden is good, he spends most of the day lounging, getting up mid afternoon to play, monitor anything being prepared in the kitchen, & wait for his walk.

Here is my other baby. A little spoiled…maybee?

One Month

July 19, 2006

Well everyone has left, & I admit I was sad to see them go. Shawn’s mom (aka Grandma Willett) is a model grandmother… not that anyone who knows her would have any doubts (most of my friends would like to trade their mother-in-law for Shirley).  She cooked dinners, cleaned my house, & spoiled both Carter & Holden. Grandma would give Carter an early morning bottle & I slept in. Plus she didn’t mind diapers, in fact I think she enjoyed it… as long as Carter was involved she was game. Holden also managed to have her under his spell – he would be fed & have ice water every morning before I got up. Yes Holden likes his ice water — he’ll bark at you when you are using the ice machine at the fridge.

Uncle Trent even became somewhat comfortable holding Carter. No he did not change any diapers, & was downright fearful of some of Carters farts… which Trent calles “sharts”, because they are not all “wind” (which is what grandma calles them).

Anyway, Carter did have his one month appointment a week ago. He’s gaining like a champ… at one month he weighed 8lbs 6oz & was 21.5 inches long. Its incredible to think he has grown an inch in 3 weeks & gained almost a pound and a half. He’s outgrown a few of his newborn outfits, not because he is round but because he is long. His neck is getting stronger & he can lift his head up pretty good… he just can’t hold it for very long. He does focus on us, but we have yet to see a smile that is a true smile & not likely gas.

  Guess who bought this bib?

Uncle Trent & Grandma Willett

July 5, 2006

I am now used to functioing on less sleep, & broken up sleep for that matter. The other night I woke Shawn up & told him to roll over simply because I was not interested in watching him sleep so deeply while I fed Carter. I am breastfeeding so Shawn is off the hook for 3am feedings until I start to pump. Shawn is however, very good at entertaining Carter in the morning so I can get a few extra zzz’s. It was a 4 day weekend here (4th of July), so I had 4 mornings of sleeping in.

Uncle Trent & Grandma Willett are soon to arrive! Trent arrives on Thursday & “Grandma Willett” on Saturday. It is a little scary that Trent will be the first family member to influence Carter. It will be nice to have help, even though Shawn thinks Trent will not be interested in learining how to change a diaper.

We are taking Carter on his first road trip while Trent & Shirley are here. We are off to La Jolla, California (north of Sandiego) for a few days. Phoenix is like an oven in the summer, so its nice to get out of town.

Happy Canada day! Last year this time we were at Trent’s Canada day kegger… things are a little different this year. Here is Carter in his Canada outfit.
